Stone crusher price is not a single number. Say a mine owner asks why two 100 tph jaw crusher quotes landed so far apart. The answer is rarely the machine itself. It’s the assumptions buried in the spreadsheet: ore hardness, duty cycle, motor size, liner metallurgy, freight and installation scope. You’ll see the same problem on every quote, from a small mobile unit to a primary station for a large concentrator.

Why stone crusher quotes differ so much

The same nominal capacity, say 100 tonnes per hour, can be quoted at wildly different figures. One supplier assumes soft limestone, another assumes abrasive granite. One includes a motor, another doesn’t. One quote covers the crusher only, another adds a feed hopper, discharge conveyor, starter panel and a set of spare liners. You can’t compare those numbers until you know what each quote actually includes.

Regional factors widen the gap further. Freight, import duties, local taxes and currency movement all sit between the ex-works price and the machine on your pad. A supplier quoting CIF will include sea freight and insurance; an EXW quote won’t. Ask which Incoterm applies.

Then there’s the support premium. A supplier with a local service team, a genuine spare-parts inventory and documented engineering drawings will quote differently from one selling a bare machine. That premium isn’t wasted money when the crusher is down and you need a liner set next week.

Crusher types and where they sit in a crushing circuit

You can’t read a crusher quote until you know what you’re buying. The main types split by duty: primary, secondary, tertiary and fine grinding feed prep. Jaw crushers are the usual primary machines for large feed. Per the US EPA, the crusher product from primary crushing is normally 7.5 to 30 centimetres in diameter (11.19.2 Crushed Stone Processing). That range affects the size of the downstream screen and secondary crusher.

Secondary crushing typically uses cone or gyratory machines. Cone crushers are commonly used for secondary crushing, which the same EPA reference says typically reduces material to about 2.5 to 10 centimetres. Those product sizes don’t come from a catalogue wish. They come from operating data in the EPA reference. Every supplier should be able to tell you which range their machine actually achieves on your ore.

The selection variables that change the price

Feed size drives the machine’s physical size. A crusher that accepts a 1,200 mm lump needs a bigger frame, a heavier eccentric shaft and more power than one fed at 150 mm. The PE jaw range alone spans feed openings from 100×150 mm to 1500×2100 mm. That spread exists because no single machine suits every feed.

Ore hardness and abrasiveness are the next lever. Granite, quartzite and traprock are abrasive; limestone and dolomite are less so. The same throughput on abrasive rock demands higher-grade liner alloys, more frequent liner replacement and possibly a larger motor. Moisture and clay change behaviour too. Sticky feed can blind screens and force you into a larger crusher or a pre-scalping screen.

Target product size matters just as much. Producing 20 mm aggregate from a cone crusher in closed circuit costs more than open-circuit crushing to 40 mm. The circuit decision changes the number of screens, conveyors and recirculating load. Hourly throughput and duty cycle tie it together. A machine running 2,000 hours a year on aggregate needs less wear reserve than one running 8,000 hours on hard ore. You’ll pay for that duty in the quote.

What a complete crusher quote should itemize

When a quote lands, read it line by line. A proper quotation isn’t a single price on an email. It’s a scope document. The table below shows the line items a complete quote should carry and the hidden cost each omission can hide.

Machine guarding is part of installation scope. General requirements say one or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect operators from hazards such as rotating parts and nip points (OSHA 1910.212). A quote that doesn’t list guarding is asking you to finish the safety scope yourself.

How to compare quotes on a like-for-like basis

Normalise the numbers. Divide each quote by motor power and feed opening, not just headline throughput. A 75 kW machine quoted at one figure is not comparable to a 110 kW machine quoted at another. Check what liners are included and what a replacement set costs from the same supplier. Verify the assumptions behind the capacity rating. A quote that assumes 20 mm open-side setting and 10 per cent moisture is not the same as one assuming 40 mm and dry feed.

Ask for a firm confirmation of design rather than catalogue data. A supplier with an in-house testing lab and manufacturing floor can run a sample or at least confirm the duty point. Then ask what happens if the crusher doesn’t meet the throughput or product size. The answer tells you how confident the supplier really is. It won’t turn into a performance guarantee, but a proper process design confirmation should be part of the negotiated scope.

Questions to ask before you request a crusher price

Before you send a request for quote, gather the following information. You’ll get a firmer number and fewer surprises later. Describe the material: rock type, hardness, abrasiveness and moisture. Give the feed size and maximum lump size. State the target product size as a P80. P80 is the size 80 per cent of the mass passes, and it anchors the design. Provide required throughput and operating hours per year. Note site constraints: available power, space, mobility, dust and noise limits.

If you don’t supply these, the supplier will assume. Assumptions are where quotes diverge. One supplier might assume a soft, dry, low-abrasion limestone and quote a light frame. Another might assume a hard, sticky, abrasive ore and quote a heavier machine. Both quotes are honest, but they describe different duties. You’ll end up comparing the wrong things.
